1995 TVR Griffith 5.0 – New Powers Performance rebuild and MBE ECU

Castle TVR are delighted to bring another beautiful TVR Griffith to the market. This particular car is finished in beautiful Mallard Green with a Doeskin full hide and antelope carpet. Over the last year this Griffith has had in excess of £10,000 spent mechanically upgrading, improving and refreshing the car.

This car benefits from a Powers Performance full engine rebuild completed in February 2020 at 43,000 miles. At the time of the rebuild the following key additional revisions were carried out

-Top hat liner block (to protect against known liner failures)
– Crank regrind
– 885 camshaft
– Upgraded injectors
– New water pump
– New oil pump gears
– Taraka plenum
– New heater pipes
– New battery
– Rocker cover refurb with billet breather.

Since the work the engine has been run in and has its necessary run-in service completed.

Whist the engine rebuild was carried out a Powers MBE ECU conversion was installed. The package included a new engine wiring loom. The MBE system removes the distributor, air flow meter and stepper motor and replaces them with coil packs and trigger wheel to enable fully mappable fuel and ignition. This results in far smoother running, drivability, efficiency and torque.

The fastidious previous keeper also decided to have the gearbox fully refurbished whilst it was removed and sent it to competition transmission services as a precautionary measure -they confirmed the gear set was in good condition and carried out a full strip and rebuild. At this time the gearbox had the S10 tail housing fitted which removes the linkage found on standard TVR Griffith models. This S10 tail housing allows the gearstick to be attached directly to the shifter block, resulting in a far more direct feeling. During this conversion the clutch and clutch release arm/bearing/slave cylinder were all replaced.

The standard alternator bracket, tensioner and idler pulleys with a long belt and cumbersome heavy parts serve no purpose on a car without A/C or PAS, therefore a John Eales alternator bracket and tensioner has been fitted which simplifies the whole system and cleans up the front of the engine. ACT silicon hoses, smooth bore induction pipes and stainless water pipes are also fitted, which really adds to the look and function of the pipe work within the engine bay.

This car is fitted with Öhlins shock absorbers, arguably the best option you can get for a Griffith providing a fantastic ride. Further upgrades include a new exhaust and de-cat.

The bodywork on this Griffith is nice but does show its age with general wear and tear.

The car has full service history prior to the engine rebuild and has been looked after at Powers since with the last service in March 2021.
